Tornadoes Touch Down in Midwest, Causing Damage and Power Outages

Des Moines and Chicago Areas Impacted

A string of tornadoes ripped through the Midwest on Monday night, leaving a trail of damage and power outages in their wake. Two tornadoes were reported near Des Moines, Iowa, and another touched down just outside O'Hare Airport in Chicago. The National Weather Service also reported a tornado near Sugar Grove, Illinois.

In Chicago, the storms brought heavy rain, hail, and damaging winds, along with the tornadoes. At least 10 tornadoes were reported in the area, including two at O'Hare and Midway airports and two in the far western suburbs. The storms damaged homes, businesses, and vehicles, and knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers.

In Des Moines, the tornadoes caused significant damage to homes and businesses, and left over 100,000 people without power. There were no reports of serious injuries in either area.

The National Weather Service is continuing to investigate the tornadoes and assess the damage. Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed about the latest weather conditions and to take precautions to stay safe.
