Supreme Court News: Elon Musk's Agreement with SEC Rejected
SCOTUS Declines to Rule on Vetting Social Media Posts
Trucker Facing Charges After Failing Drug Test
Washington, D.C. - The Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that it will deny the request of Elon Musk to review his agreement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requiring him to vet his social media posts.
The decision stems from a lawsuit filed against Musk by the SEC in 2018 alleging that he made false and misleading statements about Tesla's production goals on Twitter.
As part of the settlement, Musk agreed to step down as Tesla's chairman for three years and pay a $20 million fine. He also committed to having a Tesla lawyer review his tweets if they contain material information about the company.
Musk's attorney argued that this requirement violated his First Amendment rights, but the Court disagreed.
In a separate case, the Court also declined to hear a petition from a trucker who failed a drug test after taking prescription medication.
