Alex Pearce Remembers Cam McCarthy

Freo Skipper Emotional After Goal

Pearce's Fifth Career Goal a Moment of Reflection

Fremantle Football Club captain Alex Pearce paid tribute to his former teammate Cam McCarthy after kicking his fifth career goal in the Dockers' win over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

McCarthy, who played 83 games for Fremantle before being traded to Carlton at the end of 2020, died earlier this month at the age of 27. Pearce said he was thinking of McCarthy during the game and that his goal was for him.

"I was thinking of Cam a lot today," Pearce said after the game. "I was just really proud to be able to kick a goal for him and for the team."

Pearce fought back tears when asked about McCarthy by Channel 7 boundary commentator Abbey Holmes. "He was a great mate of mine," Pearce said. "I played with him for a long time and I just miss him so much."

Pearce's goal was his first since Round 22, 2020, and just his fifth overall in 117 games. The 27-year-old has been a key part of Fremantle's defense in recent seasons, but he has struggled to make an impact offensively.

Pearce's goal was a special moment for the Dockers and their fans. It was a reminder of McCarthy, who was a popular figure at the club. It was also a reminder of the bond between Pearce and his former teammate.
